TRIBUTES have been paid to a 'popular' police officer who died a few months after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

West Mercia Police flags flew at half-mast yesterday (Thursday 16 May) as a sign of respect for colleague PC Steve Moore who died on Wednesday evening (15 May).

PC Moore, who was 40 years old, had been diagnosed with lung cancer a few months ago. He died peacefully surrounded by his family.

Described as a popular member of the force, he joined West Mercia Police in April 2015 and most recently was based within our operational policing unit in Telford.

Temporary chief constable Alex Murray said: “It has been a difficult week for the officers, staff and volunteers of West Mercia Police as we come to terms with losing a colleague and friend.

"More than anything all of our thoughts have been with his wife Maddie, his parents and his family and friends.”
