Worcester is set to host a festival to celebrate all things European.

Eurofest is being organised by Worcester City Council, and will be held at The Guildhall on High Street on Saturday (May 11) from 11am to 3pm.

The event promises to be a colourful mix of European traditions and culture.

Highlights include performances by Bulgarian, Irish and Breton dance troupes.

The Severn Voices Choir will also perform songs in French, German, Icelandic, Italian and Ukrainian.

Foodies will have the opportunity to sample traditional Portuguese delicacies at Our Taste of Portugal, a pop-up cafe by The Hopmarket-based deli.

Additionally, Lowesmoor's Romanian restaurant Bistro by Polonicul will showcase their ingredients.

Co-host Worcester Language Exchange will give budding linguists the chance to practice different languages, while Worcestershire Polish Association will provide heritage displays, language games, crafting floral head decorations and traditional Polish cakes also pique the interest.

Also, the Word Association will be collecting stories and poems for an upcoming book.

The event will also feature heritage displays from the city council's archives, including Little Italy and a Displaced Persons Camp.

Warwick Neale, manager of the council's community services team, said: "Experiencing different traditions and cultures is an enriching experience, ensuring that we can all appreciate that society is made up of many different groups.

"We look forward to an interesting and diverse day."

This is the first time the council has organised an event celebrating European communities.

The decision came on the heels of Black History Month last year, as part of the council's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy.

The hope is for Eurofest to become an annual celebration.

All Worcester residents are welcome to participate.
