A WOMAN narrowly missed being hit by a firework at a Worcester industrial estate on Tuesday.

A number of fireworks were launched from Tolladine Road towards the Storage King building on the Great Western Business Park at about 4.50pm on Tuesday, December 17.

An employee heard the noise and went outside to investigate, where she saw two fireworks bounce off the building.

Another shot inside the building and ricocheted off the floor and the ceiling, narrowly missing the woman and showering her with spent gunpowder and dust.

Constable Stuart King from Worcester Police said it was unknown whether or not the fireworks were set off deliberately.

“These fireworks could have resulted in a very serious injury to anyone working at or visiting that part of the industrial estate on Tuesday afternoon,” he said.

“It could also have caused a fire and considerable damage to buildings and other property there.

“It is very important that people follow the instructions on the fireworks and make sure there is no chance of them injuring anyone or causing damage.

“We would like to speak to anyone who saw the fireworks going off or who knows those responsible.”

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service Watch Commander Shaun D’Oliveira said it was fortunate no one was hurt.

“While the full details are yet to emerge, I would like to remind people that throwing fireworks or setting them off in public places can put themselves and the wider public at considerable risk,” he said.
