WORCESTER Bridge was closed for an hour last night because of concern for a man standing "on the wrong side" of it.

Police officers were called to the New Road bridge about 8pm and began talking to the man.

Ambulance and fire crews were also present.

"He eventually came back onto the right side of the bridge and was off the bridge by 9.25pm and taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital to be checked," said a West Mercia Police spokesperson.

"The road was re-opened to traffic shortly afterwards."

Traffic problems were reported at the time as the bridge was closed to vehicles.
