THE Queen's only daughter was given a royal welcome when she visited the county's leading domestic abuse agency this week.

HRH The Princess Royal was welcomed as a special guest to the headquarters of West Mercia Women’s Aid, a charity that works with women and children from across Worcestershire and neighbouring counties who have been effected by domestic abuse.

The visit on Wednesday (jan 15) saw Jan Frances, chief executive of the organisation, welcoming the Princess, to the headquarters in Hereford.

During the event Princess Anne discovered the origins of the agency and found out about what they do as well as being given a tour to meet the staff, volunteers, trustees and some service users.

"We were delighted to welcome HRH The Princess Royal," said the chief executive. "Her visit offered us an excellent platform to showcase our valuable work with survivors of domestic violence and abuse to an individual who so tirelessly supports charitable ventures.

"We were also pleased that she met some of our service users, who continue to inspire us with their courage and determination every day. We’d like to thank her very much for visiting us and supporting our work.”

The Princess also met Jocelyn Anderson, chief officer of West Mercia Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre, and was presented to its staff and trustees.

She said: “We were very pleased to welcome HRH The Princess Royal to meet the staff and volunteers of Herefordshire Rape and Sexual Support Centre, in recognition of their exceptional work in supporting survivors of rape, sexual abuse and sexual violence.

"It takes tremendous courage for survivors to come forward and talk about their experiences and our dedicated team are able to offer support towards healing and recovery.”
