YOUNG wildlife enthusiasts got the chance to make their own bat and bird boxes at a Worcestershire nature centre last week.
About ten children took part in the workshop at Bishops Wood Centre in the grounds of the National Grid sub-station in Crossway Green, Stourport on Sunday, January 12.
All the boxes made by the children at the event are being placed around the site to benefit wildlife in the area.
The centre’s manager Gill Frankling said: “The older parts of our site have old trees which provide natural roost sites for bats and hollow trunks for birds to nest in,” she said. “However some of the site was planted with trees in 1996 and there is a shortage of natural roosting and nesting sites so having plenty of nest boxes will really help. "
Chris Plester from the National Grid said: “As part of our sustainability program we are keen to explore ways to enhance these areas for the benefit of wildlife. We are delighted to support Friends of Bishops Wood by providing wood for these boxes".
