YOUNG people involved with drama clubs run by the University of Worcester will be performing a new play created by Father Ted's Mrs Doyle.

Pauline McLynn, who played the character in the long-running, cult Channel 4 sitcom, is one of 10 writers invited to create new plays for young people to perform as part of a National Theatre Connections Programme - which celebrates new emerging writing and acting talent.

Twenty 13-17 year-olds, all of whom attend University of Worcester Youth Theatre sessions at The Hive or Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club, will be performing Pauline’s work, Angels, at the university’s Drama Studio tomorrow (Saturday, March 8) at 7pm and Sunday, March 9, at 2pm.

Alison Reeves, senior lecturer in Drama and Performance, said performers had been working with drama students and members of the Outreach and Recruitment team since January.

She said: "They have shown great enthusiasm and energy, attributes which the National Theatre Connections Programme look to celebrate, encourage and nurture."

Angels tells the story of a group of young strangers gathered in an old graveyard for a community project, watched over by three angels. The play follows them over the course of a day and night as they learn more about themselves and the lives they are living.

The play will also be performed at Bristol Old Vic on Monday, March 17.
