A MANOR house in the Worcestershire countryside scooped two awards at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence 2014 this week.

Eckington Manor, known for its cookery school and luxury accommodation, was named as the silver award winner in the Bed and Breakfast/Guest Accommodation category and the bronze award winner in the Taste of England section at the awards held on Monday (May 12) at Cheltenham Racecourse.

Judy Gardner, founder and owner of Eckington Manor, which is in Eckington, near Pershore, said the awards were a tribute to the vision and hard work of the entire team.

"To be in the top three nationally in two separate categories at this prestigious event is a real honour and a wonderful recognition of everyone’s hard work," she said.

"We have invested a great deal in developing our 260 acre farm to supply the freshest and very best meat and produce possible for our restaurant; and we have also spent a great deal of effort in refurbishing our accommodation.

"Now, with its silk wallpaper, antler chandeliers, restored antique furniture and host of individual and special features, our overnight accommodation offers unique levels of style and comfort."

Brockencote Hall Hotel near Kidderminster was highly commended in the Small Hotel of the Year category for the second year running.

Both venues are members of Visit Worcestershire, run by the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce, which helps businesses to grow and develop.

Victoria Carman, tourism development officer, said: "We have seen two outstanding venues recognised at these prestigious awards and I am delighted that Worcestershire has been put firmly on the national map for tourism excellence."

Visit Worcestershire will be launching its own local tourism awards in June which will culminate in a gala awards ceremony on October 23 at the Mercure Kidderminster Hotel.
