A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of committing a serious sexual assault in Malvern.

A woman in her 20s was sexually assaulted in a hotel in the town centre on the evening of Tuesday, May 13.

She was taken by ambulance to hospital where she was treated for minor injuries.

The initial report linked the assault to an alleyway near the Foley Arms, Belle Vue Terrace, but it has emerged the incident happened in a hotel elsewhere in the town centre.

Detective Inspector Rebecca Love of West Mercia Police said: “It was initially believed the incident had occurred in a service road in Belle Vue.

"However, it has now been established that it happened in a nearby hotel, and that the two parties involved were known to each other.

“A man in his 20s was arrested by Hampshire Police on behalf of West Mercia Police this morning (Friday), and will be questioned over the course of the weekend.

“We understand that reports of sex attacks cause alarm and anxiety within communities, and hope people will be reassured by the speedy arrest in this case."
