ARMY Cadets from the county have been honoured and rewarded for their efforts by the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire.

The Worcester Army Cadet Force League held its ninth annual lunch at the Chateau Impney Droitwich on Sunday, May 18 which included guests of honour the Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire The Countess of Darnley and the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire Lieutenant Colonel Patrick Holcroft.

Also there was Commander 143 West Midlands Brigade, Brigadier Gerhard Wheeler.

During the lunch the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire thanked his outgoing Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets for their service and appointed new cadets for the coming year.

From the Army Cadet Force, Company Sergeant Major Sophia Baker, aged 18, from Stourbridge was presented with a certificate to commemorate her year as a Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet and Staff Sergeant Piers Drinkall, 17, from Malvern, was presented with his badges of office.

The Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire also made a surprise presentation of a Lord Lieutenant’s Award to Major Jeff Hyde in recognition of his support to the Army Cadet Force over more than 32 years of outstanding service.

Deputy Commandant Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Booton said: “Major Hyde is typical of the committed and enthusiastic team of over 130 adults who assist youngsters across the two counties to

achieve their goals.

"The Battalion is always looking for adult volunteers, so if you like the idea of inspiring and leading young people to achieve things they never thought possible, and are looking for something exciting to do in your spare time, please get in touch.”

The Worcester Army Cadet Force League has supported Hereford & Worcester Army Cadet Force for many years and a cheque for £12,000 was presented to the Commandant Colonel Andy Taylor to purchase expedition tents, radios to assist in the coordination of events and exercises, extra Scorpion Air Rifles and sports kit.

It was also announced at the lunch that the League had amalgamated with two other trusts, all of which support the Cadet Battalion, to form the new Hereford & Worcester Army Cadet Force Charitable Trust.
