A WORCESTER man who was brutally attacked by a group of glass bottle-wielding youths while out on a date has said he has been left “scarred for life”.

The 30-year-old carpenter – who did not want to give his name for fear of repercussions from his attackers – was walking through Lansdowne Park in Lansdowne Road at 11.10pm on Friday, June 6, with a woman he was on a date with and two other male friends when they were set upon.

“We were walking from the Chestnut pub to my mate’s house,” he said.

“The next thing I knew my mate is being hit by some lads.

“We were all going ‘we don’t want a fight’’ and I said ‘we don’t want any trouble, lads’.

“The next thing I knew a got a beating. They hit me over the head with glass bottles.

“It was so vicious I didn’t even throw a punch back – we just couldn’t get away from them.”

Although police had originally said the group had stopped to talk to a young boy before the attack, the victim said this was not the case.

He said his friends had told him the group – who may have been members of a gang – had all been white and one of them was wearing kickboxing equipment.

“I can’t really remember a lot of it,” he said. “If I walked past them today, I probably wouldn’t even recognise them. There were a group of girls in the park as well and they were shouting ‘don’t do it, get off ’.”

The victim suffered a broken cheekbone and four broken teeth as well as cuts, bruises and grazes to the face and body.

“I came off the worst,” he said. “I’m going to be scarred for life. I’ve still got a black eye and my face is all yellow.

“I can’t raise my eyebrows because of damage to the muscles. My other two mates and the girls were ok.”

He said he hoped his story would help to track down his attackers, saying: “We need to get them off the streets.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 quoting 905s 060614 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or crimestoppers-uk.org.

Sorry to hear about the attack. I lived just round the corner for 2 years, there is a gang problem in the area. as usual, it falls on the "public" for any witness evidence requested by the laughing policemen..
