A FORMER paralympian is calling out to his colleagues in Worcester to put in the miles before their charity cycle challenge next month.

Aj Ahmed, who captained Great Britain's blind football team in the 2008 games in Beijing, is part of the Dolphin team who are tackling the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 in aid of Blind Veterans UK, the national charity helping vision impaired ex-service men and women.

Mr Ahmed, along with two other visually impaired colleagues, is riding in tandem with sighted staff to form a team of nine from Dolphin's Worcester headquarters, as they look to cover 100 miles.

He said: “We wanted to take on a challenge to raise money for a charity close to our hearts, while at the same time get fit and stretch ourselves.

"Our training rides in the Malvern Hills have been getting longer with final sessions of 70 miles planned in the remaining weekends.

“I’m making sure we all keep motivated and encouraged, with good team morale. Our goal is to complete the 100 miles and raise lots of money for blind veterans".

Dolphin’s association with Blind Veterans UK provides their beneficiaries with specialist PC, laptop and tablet packages with Dolphin software such as SuperNova and Dolphin Guide that scan and read post, access books and speak email to enable visually impaired people to regain their independence.

They are scheduled to take on the gruelling cycle challenge on Sunday, August 10.
