THIS was the shocking scene at a trashed Malvern house last week.

Smashed windows, ripped out kitchen fittings and a flooded bathroom were discovered at the Elgar Avenue property on Monday, October 13 – and the cost of the damage has been estimated at £25,000.

Plug sockets had also been wrecked while broken furniture, discarded mattresses and household waste were left outside in an unsightly pile.

West Mercia Police were informed of the incident but no arrests have been made and investigations are on-going.

A couple had been evicted from the property by Fortis Living on Monday, October 13, which owns the building, for breaching the terms of their tenancy agreement.

The housing company took the action after “working closely with the couple and partner agencies to resolve any issues” had failed and “in the end eviction was the only option left”.

Police stated there was nothing to link the tenants to the criminal damage.

A spokeswoman for Fortis Living said: “On arrival at the property there was considerable damage to both the inside and the outside and we estimate the cost to Fortis Living will be between £20,000 and £25,000 to put right.

“As the damage was so severe we will be working with police to prosecute those responsible.”

She added that the company “takes the welfare of tenants and their families very seriously and will work with them to resolve problems before eviction is considered and it will always be the last resort”.
