SCOUTS from Worcester will immerse themselves in Japanese life next summer.

Scouts from Worcester and Hereford will join more than 3,000 young people and adult volunteers from around the UK to take part in the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Japan next summer, which sees the scouts living with Japanese families to experience their way of life.

Home Hospitality is a key element of the adventure-based program for the Jamboree, which is held in Kirara-hama from July 28 to August 8.

Over the four days that the Scouts will spend with the family, Hereford and Worcester Contingent 43, will gain experience of day-to-day Japanese life including meal times, socialising and house traditions.

Each of the Scouts will stay with a different family in the same area and therefore will have differing experiences depending on the family traditions and what they plan to show them during their time with the family.

Ben Woodcock, an explorer scout, said: “Kagoshima sounds an exciting and mind blowing place to experience with the possibility of seeing the twin peaked volcanic island of Sakurajima an added bonus.”

Byron Chatburn, UK Contingent Leader for the 23rd World Scout Jamboree, said: “The World Scout Jamboree changes the lives of the young people and adults that attend. Home Hospitality is a unique opportunity to taste Japanese life and develop an understanding of a different culture and way of life.”
