A WALKER who broke his leg in the Malvern Hills has been rescued by firefighters.

The man, aged in his 60s, suffered the injury close to the top of Worcestershire Beacon.

An argocat off-road vehicle and a stretcher were used to get the rambler down from the hills before an ambulance transferred him to hospital.

The incident took place at 11.30am today.

A Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crew from Malvern attended the scene.

One ambulance, a paramedic officer in a rapid response car and the hazardous area response team (HART) were also present.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived at Worcestershire Beacon following reports of a walker injuring himself near the summit.

“A man in his 60s was located at the top of the Beacon. He was treated for a fractured leg.

“The patient was assessed at the scene by ambulance staff before fire service colleagues used specialist equipment to bring the man to safety.

“The patient was eventually taken by ambulance to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
