THE latest talk organised by the Battle of Worcester Society will be looking at the role of medics during the English Civil Wars.

The Battle of Worcester Society's Civil War nights programme takes place on Thursday, June 23, with a talk and demonstration from Dr Stephen Rutherford of Cardiff University entitled: "Quacks Butchers or Pioneers? Surgeons and the Treatment of Wounds in the English Civil Wars."

During the talk Dr Ruthford demonstrates the injuries caused by Civil War swords on a joint of meat, and the examples are from the writings of Dr Richard Wiseman - the most prominent Royal Surgeon during the Civil Wars.

The presentation will be taking place in the Great Hall of the Commandery.

Doors open at 6pm, with the talk starting at 7pm. There will be a bar open, and refreshments available.

Tickets are available from the Commandery, or on the door on the night.

They cost £7, £5 for Battle of Worcester Society members and £3 for students.
