Armed robbers raid post office and steal cash

First published in News

TWO armed robbers threatened post office staff and stole cash during a daytime raid.

The men were wearing fluorescent yellow jackets and carrying a knife and a small axe when they entered the Wilden Lane Post Office in Stourport at about 10.40amand threatened two workers and smashed a glass counter screen and took cash from a till.

No one was hurt during the incident and there were no customers inside the store at the time.

It is not yet known how they arrived and left the area but police are interested in sightings of a black car which was nearby in Bigbury Lane at around that time and may possibly be connected.

The raiders are both described as white and in their 20s, wearing hi-vis jackets, black trousers and scarves across their faces.

One was very tall with a large build and brown hair which was flat and swept to one side, while the other was smaller and thinner and had his hood up.

Detective Inspector John Cashion said: “A black car was seen in Bigbury Lane at around the same time as the robbery and we really need to identify that vehicle and its driver, even if it is just to rule it out of any involvement.

"Despite the fact no-one was hurt it has left the staff involved quite shaken. These men need to be caught quickly so please come forward if you know anything at all.”

Anyone with information should call the police, quoting incident 190-S-240114, on the non-emergency number 101.
