WORCESTER'S famous sauce has been secretly spicing up the Celebrity Big Brother house.

Eagle-eyed viewers of the Channel 5 programme may have spotted that reality TV star Ollie Locke gave his seal of approval to Worcestershire Sauce during a recent task.

He claimed to have secretly smuggled in a bottle of the sauce, first made in Worcester by Lea and Perrins more than 150 years ago, to help pep up the food if housemates were subjected to basic rations.

However, the contraband was revealed when housemates were asked to present an argument persuading others as to why they should stay in the house and were given whiteboards to help illustrate their points.

Ollie, who is from Southampton but made his name starring in Made in Chelsea, tried to sway voters by writing - with some spectacular spelling errors - that he had, "smuggled in Woster Sause for the days of chickpea."

It is the second time the city's famous sauce has hit the headlines in as many weeks.

Last week, we reported how MP Jim Dowd had used Worcestershire Sauce as an example of how well-known brands could be copied and exploited.

Mr Dowd told the House of Commons he had been disappointed to be served Henderson's Relish, a sauce from Sheffield, despite asking for Worcestershire Sauce in a London pub.

MPs were discussing what Mr Dowd called "parasitic" packaging during the second reading of the Intellectual Property Bill.

However, Mr Dowd's comments caused a furore in Sheffield with deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, who is MP for the city, also wading into the argument by penning an open letter to Mr Dowd expressing his displeasure at the slur.

Mr Clegg wrote: "Henderson’s Relish has been made in Sheffield for over 100 years and is a much loved local institution. Its aroma and flavour are unique."
