TWO more people have been charged in connection with one of the biggest cannabis growing operations ever discovered in the West Mercia Police force area.

A total of 1,400 cannabis plants were discovered at a unit off Barracks Road in the Sandy Lane Industrial Estate, Stourport, on February 7 last year.

Mohammed Imran Asif, aged 37, of Watersmeet Road, Coventry and 31-year-old Felicity Sherriff, of Valley Road, Coventry, answered police bail on Thursday, January 30, when they were both charged with conspiracy to supply/produce cannabis, which is a class B drug.

They were brought before Birmingham magistrates the following day when Asif was remanded in custody and Sherriff was released on court bail.

The pair will appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Friday, February 14 for a plea and case management hearing.

Asif and Sherriff were among 14 people arrested following the discovery of the huge cannabis factory on the outskirts of Stourport.

Those arrested at the time included two illegal immigrants, who were each subsequently jailed for two-and-a-half years in April after they admitted being concerned in the production of cannabis.

They have been deported to Vietnam to complete their sentences.

Of the remaining 10, nine were subsequently released without any action being taken against them and the other has yet to be dealt with.
