A FARMER has starred in a competition aimed at promoting renewable energy among rural communities.

Greg Davies, from Suckley, near Worcester, competed in the Energy Now Expo Young Farmer competition in Telford, Shropshire.

Mr Davies battled it out on stage in front of a panel of industry experts and an audience of farmers and landowners from across the UK.

He came second, losing out to Alex Fowlie from Turriff in Aberdeenshire.

Both impressed the judges with their thoughts on renewable energy technologies.

“I was delighted to make it to the final and have thoroughly enjoyed the whole event," said Mr Davies.

"Renewable energy is so important for now and for future generations, so I'll continue to develop my skills in this vibrant and exciting industry.”

David Jacobmeyer, organiser of Energy Now Expo, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed both of the presentations from Greg and Alex.

"It is incredibly important that young people get involved with the agriculture industry and it is great to see young farmers like Greg and Alex showing a real passion for renewable energy which will play a huge part in the future of farming in the UK.”
