Prom fair will raise money for school trip to Tanzania

A PROM fair will be taking place at the Guildhall in Worcester to help raise funds for a trip to Tanzania.

A team of 13 challengers aged 15 and 16 will join two teachers from The Chantry school for the World Challenge which will see them set out from Martley to travel 7,000 miles to Dar es salaam in Tanzania.

The fair has been organised to raise money for the trip because each team member must raise £3,500 to pay for their part in the challenge.

Julia Haywood, mum of Maia who is one of the challengers, has helped organise the fair.

She said: "We have about 15 stallholders with two dress companies - Promesse and Dresses4Divas - so there's something to suit every pocket.

"We have also got hair demonstrations and make-up."

The stalls also include those selling beauty products, cufflinks and jewellery as well as car hire and more Prom-related goods.

A raffle will be held offering a prize of a money-can't-buy car and driver for the winner's prom.

Mrs Haywood said: "We have been having various fundraising meetings and I thought proms are quite up and coming and it was quite a good opportunity.

"We are asking £2 to go in to boost funds but anyone is welcome."

The fair will take place between 2pm and 5pm.

The team will set out on their challenge in July and will take part in treks and help out with the local community.

Mrs Haywood said: "It teaches life skills.

"They will have to make decisions on how they get to places.

"They are involved with every stage of the planning of the trip.
