A best selling author will visit a Droitwich school to inspire pupils to become writers.

Robert Rigby is best known for his Goal series of books and has also written episodes of popular TV show Byker Grove along with the Boy Soldier series of books, alongside Andy McNab.

He will visit Droitwich High School as part of the school's celebration of World Book Day, spending time with year 8 students in the day time and older teenagers and their parents in the evening.

Mr Rigby will read from his latest, unpublished novel The Eagle Trail and encourage students to enjoy reading and try writing themselves.

The school's librarian Heather Evans, who organised the visit, said: ‘We do try to get authors here to school every year if we can.

"It is so important for students to realise that people who write books are not remote and mysterious characters, they are normal people just like their mums and dads and there is no reason why they should not aspire to be writers themselves."

Abby Taylor, an English teacher at the school who is helping with the event said: "This is a great opportunity for the students to learn from someone who is at the top of their craft.

"Our year 8’s will benefit greatly from hearing him talk about his work but also by getting hands on help with their writing from someone who makes a living from doing just that."

The visit will take place on Tuesday, March 4.
