DOES Malvern have its very own Banksy?

The series of pieces of street art paying homage to Sir Edward Elgar which mysteriously appeared at the Wells Road bus shelter beneath the Rosebank Gardens in the centre of Great Malvern at the weekend would suggest it does.

However, much like the secretive Bristolian artist, the identity of the perpetrator remains shrouded in mystery as very little is known about them apart from the obvious fact that they are keen on Worcestershire's most famous son.

The four images are dotted along the wall of the shelter, with one finding the classical composer nonchalantly standing next to the phone box clutching a green smartphone in his hands.

Each of the other three portraits are neatly framed above the benches of the shelter, mixing bright and bold colours in something of a Pop Art style.

At the time of going to press Malvern Town Council, who own the shelter, were in discussions with the artist and unable to comment further on the subject.

It is unclear whether the striking images would be removed.

With nearly 900 'Likes' on facebook in just one day (including me) It's only right that they should be preserved, and the artist should be applauded and maybe even given a grant to brighten up other sites in our town.

I think this is an entertaining, harmless and culturally appropriate free expression of creativity that deserves to be left alone. Any right minded official should see that it will only have a positive effect on its environment and those who view it. The time, money and effort it would take to cover it up should actually be redirected to something positive, i.e. smartening up the environment in which this art is displayed.

Some very positive views here! I thought the stuffy attitude of the ageing Malvern-ites would have condemned this instantly. Well done for seeing through the media-portrayed 'vandalism' angle and appreciated what is clearly well thought out and well executed art.
