Slimmers in Worcester loose more than 260 stone in the first three months of 2014
4:59pm Tuesday 11th March 2014 in News
SLIMMERS in Worcester have lost a total of more than 260 stone in the first three months of this year.
Members of Weight Watchers groups in the area shed the weight after Christmas following findings by Public Health England that 65.3 per cent of people in Worcester are either overweight or obese.
In an effort to encourage others to slim down, Worcester Weight Watchers group leader Dawn Cooper is throwing open the doors to meetings in the area to non-members in the last week of March.
She said: "The recent Public Health England statistics highlight that obesity is a growing concern and with links to heart disease, diabetes and even some cancers, it's something which we should all be aware of."
“Weight Watchers members in Worcester have lost over 260 stone so far this year and we know we can help even more Worcester residents to lose that excess weight.
“That's why we've decided to open our doors next week and help Worcester get on the right track to tackle our weighty problem.
“We encourage all Worcester residents who are concerned about their weight to come and see us – together we can make a big difference and reduce Worcester 's risk of obesity."
The open meetings will be held at Fernhill Heath Memorial Hall in Droitwich Road, Fernhill Heath, from 6.30pm on Monday, March 24 at 6.30pm, St Wulstan’s Church Hall in Cranham Drive from 5.30pm on Tuesday, March 25, Martley Village Hall in Berrow Green Road, Martley, from 6.30pm on Wednesday, March 26 and St Andrew’s Methodist Church in Pump Street, Worcester, from 10am on Friday, March 28.
