MUSIC fans will be able to help a club celebrate its third birthday in a new and larger venue.

Worcester Jazz begins its 2014 programme next month and is marking its anniversary by switching to the Bank House Hotel, Bransford, near Worcester and reverting to its original day of the first Monday of the month.

Over the years the hotel has been known as a music venue playing host to all kinds of everything from rock and roll to big band, and the first Worcester Jazz show in the venue will take place on Monday, April 7 with Paul Sawtell on vibes with Dave Newton on keyboard and Bill Coleman on bass.

The top-class trio have worked together regularly and their set list will include some Lionel Hampton and George Shearing tunes plus plenty of foot tapping jazz.

Promoter Pat Holly said: "With the ever increasing audiences we felt that we needed somewhere we could comfortably accommodate those larger numbers.

"Also, if they wish, jazz-goers can now enjoy a meal while they listen to the jazz. The hotel, which has undergone major refurbishment, is very keen to support the jazz club and there is also an ample car park. A very positive start to our fourth year."

In May, the club - which has moved from the Barbourne Ex-Services Club, Barbourne, Worcester - will be playing host to the Bobby Wellins Quartet and June sees the return of singer Maggie Reeday.

Membership of the club gives a discount on entry to the concerts as well as to jazz events at Worcester's Huntingdon Hall and a car sharing scheme is in operation for anyone who is concerned about driving at night.

Doors open at 7pm and the music starts at 8pm, with tickets priced at £10 or £9 for members.
