A HEALTH boss has said the organisation running Worcestershire’s three acute hospitals is showing some “early shoots” of financial recovery, despite being set to make a £12 million loss at the end of this financial year.
Speaking at a meeting of the governing body of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust on Wednesday, March 26, deputy chief executive Chris Tidman said the organisation has made a deficit of £500,000 in February.
But he said the trust – which runs Worcestershire Royal Hospitals, Kidderminster Hospital and Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital – had carried out a greater amount of elective operations in February than it had in January, despite the shorter month.
“That is good for the trust in the sense that it brings more income,” he said.
“My concern is about how quickly we can turn this around.”
He added the trust was considering taking out some short-term borrowing in an attempt to relieve the problem quicker.
