Tots get a wiggle for charity

First published in News

A few wiggly caterpillars have been seen snaking their way around Worcestershire.

Little ones from children's centres, nurseries and play groups were sponsored to take part in the Great Wiggle fundraiser to celebrate the Very Hungry Caterpillar Day.

The day marked the start of the 45th anniversary celebration of Eric Carle's book and charity Action for Children's 145th year.

Under fives from Bluebell Wood, Sunflower, Saffron, Lavender, Buttercup and Tudor Way Children's Centres wiggled along in giant caterpillar conga lines and took part in a treasure hunt at Worcester Woods on Thursday, March 20.

Also taking part was Little Blossoms nursery in Upper Hook Road, Upton Upon Severm.

Manager Sam Brookes said children aged six months to four year congaed in and out of the Orchard Trees near the nursery before listening to the story.

They also baked and iced biscuits, painted caterpillars and tasted food from the book including swiss cheese and salami.

The nursery has already raised £268.70 with money still coming in.

Sue Rogers, children’s services manager at Action for Children, said: “The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a firm favourite at our children’s centres and we are really excited about celebrating important anniversaries for both the book and Action for Children by taking part in the Giant Wiggle.”

The money raised will go to Action for Children which works with the UK's most vulnerable children, young people and families.
