A BRIGHT idea to mark Earth Hour saw youngsters dress up in colourful clothing and headbands.

Children and staff from Burlish Park Primary School, Stourport-on-Severn donned brightly coloured clothing to highlight World Wildlife Fund's campaign to switch of non-essential lights for one hour on a certain day.

Earth Hour aims to highlight the effects of climate change as well as the importance of turning off appliances when they are not in use.

Lynda Williams, eco schools co-ordinator, said : "People across the world were asked to switch off their lights for an hour for the Earth Hour campaign and to make a wish for the future of our world.

"Our children really enjoyed dressing up and participating in the activities.

"The older pupils watched the schools real time data logger graph drop dramatically minute by minute as lights were turned off around the school for an hour.

"They were amazed at how much electricity our school could save and it was mind blowing to think about how much electricity could be saved if every school in Worcestershire turned off lights for an hour every week, then in the whole of England and expanding this idea to the whole world."

Younger pupils focussed on how climate change, poaching and deforestation was affecting animals around the world and every pupil wrote down a wish for the future on a star which have been displayed around the school.
