THE Midlands arm of a competition for GCSE and A level Fashion and Textiles students will be held at RGS Worcester.

Lauren Guthrie, Great British Sewing Bee Finalist from the 2013 BBC series, will join the judging panel for Young Fashion Designer UK.

The competition, now in its fourth year, rewards the talent of school and college students who have a real flair for fashion.

Following Great British Sewing Bee 2013 Lauren built up her own haberdashery, fabric and yarn shop based in Moseley, Birmingham where she also teaches sewing and dressmaking workshops.

She said: “I am delighted to have been asked by RGS to join the judges.

“I know from my experience of Great British Sewing Bee that having your work judged can seem daunting but it’s a great way to challenge yourself and improve your confidence and skills.”

Other judges include menswear buyers and textile print designers.

YFDUK 2014 is open to any student who has designed and made a fashion garment as part of their assessed coursework.

The selected finalists are invited to attend the Midlands region final at RGS Worcester on Saturday, June 21.
