A CAMPAIGN has been launched to save Worcester's walk-in health centre.

Health bosses are currently considering a major overhaul of urgent care in the county, which will include the closure of the walk-in element of centre in Farrier Street.

But if the plans - dubbed the Worcestershire Urgent Care Strategy - are given the go-ahead the centre will remain open as a GP surgery.

Labour's parliamentary candidate for Worcester Cllr Joy Squires officially launched a campaign to stop the closure on Friday, April 25, describing the centre as "incredibly important to the city".

"If the centre is closed people will have no alternative but to go to already over-stretched A&E departments," she said.

β€œIt is important that people join the campaign to keep Worcester walk-in centre open.”

The campaign group will be going door-to-door in the city urging residents to sign a petition against the closure of the site, which currently deals with 15,000 inquiries a year and has 4,400 registered patients.

A public consultation into the plans closed earlier this month after being extended by three weeks to allow residents to have a closer look at the scheme, which is now being considered by NHS bosses.
