TEAMS from a Worcester business went head to head in a game of Twenty20 cricket to raise vital funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

The special encounter, between staff from the Worcester-based Sanctuary Group, took place at Rushwick Cricket Club.

They received fantastic support from staff across the group and donations helped raise around £2,000 for the hospice.

Teams named the Bravehearts' and the Tigers' clashed in the showdown, which was attended by Gareth Andrew from Worcestershire County Cricket Club, who met the captains at the start and oversaw the coin toss.

The game marked the five-year anniversary of the Sanctuary Cricket Club and was part of the Group’s year-long commitment to Acorns as its charity of the year.

Neil Hirons, Sanctuary development project finance manager, who organised the event, said: "What a fantastic night! We really wanted to start the new cricket season with a bang and what better way to do it than raise so much money for Acorns.

"The support we received for the event from staff and local business shows how much they were behind the idea and next year we plan on going even bigger and better."
