EXTRA funds to help flood hit homes and businesses have been made available following a successful campaign.

West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin was behind the campaign and an additional £190,000 has now been made available from central government.

The MP started the campaign after receiving concerns from people in her constituency that they were not being helped enough by the Emergency Fund, announced by David Cameron during his visit to Upton upon Severn in February this year.

MP Harriett Baldwin said: "“I am pleased my requests for additional funds have been accepted and a substantial amount of money can now be passed on to those who were badly hit by winter floods.

“I hope that these extra funds quickly get into the hands of the people who need it most – the hard working people who suffered owing to floods during the winter.

“This is some good news and I look forward to hearing further good news on major infrastructure improvements from the Chancellor in the autumn and at next year’s Budget.”

This will make a total of £222,500 that has been allocated to Malvern Hills District Council for flood relief from central government.

Those wishing to apply for funds should contact Malvern Hills District Council.

Councillor Phil Grove, portfolio holder for Economic Development at the district council, said:“We have lobbied hard for extra resources to help our district businesses recover from the recent flooding and I am particularly pleased that we will be able to support those traders in the Upton area who suffered from a very tough trading period whilst most of the towns main routes were closed.”
