A NEW youth officer has been appointed at the Diocese of Worcester.

Simon Hill, aged 38, will work with parishes and schools across Worcestershire and Dudley as part of his new role, which he will take up on Tuesday, July 1.

Mr Hill is currently the youth and children’s work co-ordinator for St Nicholas Church in Durham and will be moving to Evesham with his wife Claire and two young sons.

The role will involve supporting churches in their work with young people, providing training and resources, working with chaplains in secondary schools, as well as further and higher education, and also liaising with other youth organisations and community groups.

Mr Hill said: “When I saw the role advertised, it sounded like a really exciting opportunity and when I came to interview, the team that I will work with was absolutely lovely.

"I am looking forward to getting stuck in and getting to know a new area and new people, although finding my way around the villages in Worcestershire and the more urban Dudley could be a challenge."

He added: "I hope to start by meeting as many people as possible and get a good sense of the youth work that’s currently happening in parishes. I also want to listen to the young people to find out what they’re hoping for and to pray with them.”

Mr Hill will work alongside children’s officer, Emma Pettifer, to support churches as they nurture children, young people and young adults in their faith.
