ROY Hodgson has named his England World Cup squad and now a team of musicians are backing the Three Lions in Brazil.

While the likes of Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart and Steven Gerrard have booked their seats on the plane to Rio, indie pop group God Save the King have been singing their hearts out to create their patriotic number, Big Balls.

The band, who hail from Worcester and Hereford and are made up of vocalist and rhythm guitarist Pete Adams, bassist Mike Wynn, vocalist and lead guitarist Adam Daffurn and drummer Ben Cullimore, are hoping their tune can become a terrace anthem.

Pete says the song has humble origins but they have high hopes for it.

"Inspiration came from an incredible hangover one Sunday morning two months ago. Watching The Football League show it suddenly struck us that we'd come up with a football song a couple of years earlier so we went to the pub to finish it on a beer mat."

He added: Our hopes are simple - Big Balls for number 1."

God Save the King showed great teamwork to create the song, which was produced by Dave Draper at Tower Studios in Pershore and the video was shot by Worcester's Bravo Oscar Productions.

More than 20 local bands were included on the finished record, including Hey You Guys!, Das Sexy Clap, the Capital and Weathered Hands, who all helped provide guest vocals as the song and video recording happened in one take.

"It was all great fun hanging about with friends and shouting," said Pete.

Their video has already been watched more than a thousand times on YouTube, with friends and fans helping to get the ball rolling.

Big Balls is available to download on iTunes and the video can be watched on YouTube.
