Calendar Girls have party covered
2:35pm Tuesday 13th May 2014 in News
AN amateur dramatic group who bared all in the name of art partied with the stars.
The Norbury Theatre in Droitwich was able to stage its own production of Calendar Girls when the rights for amateur groups to present the play were released for 18 months in September 2012.
A cast of women from the Friar Street venue were among those up and down the country to follow in the footsteps of the group of Yorkshire women from a Women's Institute group who became a media sensation.
Some of the cast travelled to the Yorkshire Showground, in Harrogate, for an after show party with other amateur groups to have afternoon tea with some of the original calendar girls and Tim Firth, who wrote the show and the screenplay of 2003 film, on Sunday, May 11.
The amateur performances were a huge success with many groups choosing to fundraise for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research by producing their own calendars, Christmas cards or holding collections, raising more than £100,000 to date.
Helen Mirren and Julie Walters were among those to star in the silverscreen adaptation directed by Nigel Cole.
