HUNDREDS of people will be able to take a dip for free this summer at the Droitwich Spa Lido.

A total of 650 free tickets for entrance to the swimming pool will go on offer after the Friends of Droitwich Spa Lido set aside £2,000 of money, which they have raised.

The friends will also organise late night swims, which have proved popular in previous years, during the summer season from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

These are set to take place on June 21 and 28 and July 5 and 6 and are to be supported by the Music festival, details of which are to be released later.

Chairman of the friends, Suzi Wood, said: "We chose to spend money this way in order to help promote the Lido and bring customers to our excellent facility who maybe had not attended before.

"Some tickets will be given to local schools and organisations. Other initiatives involved a tombola at St Richard’s day where free tickets could be won.

"We had a very good summer last year and I hope everyone supports the Lido again this year, with some of the fundraising money we have made we are supporting the heating bills at the Lido so that the water temperature can be increased slightly."

The Lido opens on Saturday, May 24.

Sandra Smith, Lido Manager, said: "Wychavon Leisure are pleased to be part of this initiative and would like to thank Friends of Droitwich Spa Lido for their continued support for this wonderful facility."
