MORE tributes have been paid to a former Pershore High School secretary after she died aged 101.

Evelyn Jones, whose funeral will take place on Tuesday (May 27) at Pershore Abbey at 2pm, worked at the high school for almost 30 years when it was known as Pershore Secondary Modern.

She was born in Astwood Road, Worcester, on February 25, 1913, and later lived in Pershore before moving to South Hayes Care Home in Worcester eight years ago.

This time last year Mrs Jones celebrated her 100th birthday by leading Pershore Carnival procession. She used to help on the carnival committee and could often be seen selling raffle tickets.

And when Mrs Jones celebrated her 100th birthday last year she was visited by former colleagues, Shelia Smith and Sue Jeavons.

Other visitors included head girl, Beth Goode and Jamie Smith along with Bethany Ireland and headteacher Clive Corbett, who paid tribute to Mrs Jones.

He said: "All at Pershore High School are very sad to learn of the recent passing of Evelyn Jones at the age of 101. Evelyn became secretary here in the late 1940s, working until her retirement in 1977. She will be sadly missed and we would like to offer our condolences to Evelyn’s family."
