A NEW padlock has joined the collection which adorn Sabrina Bridge to commemorate the special bond between members of a Worcester and German choirs.

It was placed on the footbridge between Grandstand Road and Hylton Road on Tuesday during a special ceremony with mayor of Worcester, cllr Pat Agar, members of The Oakville Singers as well as the twinning association including students from Worcester, Massachusetts, USA.

The lock was presented to Dionysius-Choir, from Krefeld, Germany, by the members of The Oakville Singers during a farewell dinner after a fundraising concert which raised £14,850 for CLIC Sargent.

Inscribed on the lock in German is the sentence "Best wishes from Krefeld".

Cllr Agar said: “It was a real pleasure to meet members of both choirs before they sang at the Spring Into Action Concert.

"This is a lovely way to celebrate one of the last official engagements of my year of office.”

The Spring into Action concert was held at Worcester Cathedral in March.

Previously, the choirs have met and sung together in Paris and cities in Germany and a very good bond has developed between members over a number of years.

They were introduced to each other through the City of Worcester Twinning Association in Worcester and Kleve.

The Oakville Singers, based in Worcester, was founded in 1965 and perform a wide range of choral music at both public and private functions.

They have raised thousands of pounds for charity and will be singing in York Minster, Liverpool and Lincoln Cathedrals this year.

Last year, three football fans from Worcester decided to bring the custom of placing padlocks on to bridges to the city after seeing locks of love sites during a European tour.

Since then, about thirty more locks have been placed on the bridge near to Pitchcroft.
