A TEAM of midwives from Worcestershire Royal Hospital will swap their scrubs for the waters of the Severn this weekend.

Dragon boat crew the Worcester Bolton Dragons were formed in 2012 in memory of colleague Lorraine Bolton, who died in July that year and will be one of 29 teams taking part in a regatta on the river this Saturday, June 8.

The 15-strong team have so far raised £3,000 for the hospital’s cardiac catheter suite and proceeds from this year’s Race the Dragon event, which is arranged by dragon boat team the Worcester Dragons, will go towards the cause.

Race the Dragon coordinator Craig Cliff said the yearly event aimed to get as many teams from the area involved as possible.

“When our coach Nigel Leigh had a heart attack in 2012 he was treated very well by the cardiology department at Worcestershire Royal Hospital,” he said.

“We’re very pleased to be supporting this charity.”

Midwife and Bolton Dragon Sharon Sarkar said: “We would love for people to come down and support us and the many teams taking place in this event.”

As well as the spectacular display of dragon boats Saturday’s event will also feature opportunities to try a training machine, a barbeque and other stands.
