A CARE home in Pershore is throwing open its doors for a day at the beach-inspired event.

Residents at Heathlands in Station Road, Pershore, will be heading back in time with a 1950s inspired beach party to mark National Care Home Open Day.

The Sanctuary Care home will be open to all on Friday, June 20, as part of the initiative which aims to forge lasting links between residents and their local communities.

For the special day the home's gardens will be transformed into the scene of a 1950s resort, there will be sandpits, bunting and flags galore, plus a puppet show between 11am and noon.

At 2pmthe mayor of Pershore, councillor Tony Rowley, will officially open the home's new corner shop and gazebo.

He will be accompanied by Worcestershire County Councillor Liz Tucker and her husband, former mayor of Pershore Charles Tucker.

There will also be traditional ice creams served from an old fashioned trike.

Anita Fletcher, home manager at Heathlands, said: "We wanted to do something a little different for National Care Home Open Day. Our residents fondly remember days spent building sandcastles with their children so we wanted to recreate these special memories for them, and the people of Pershore, by throwing a spectacular day beside the seaside."
