MUSIC lovers packed into a Worcester city park for Youthcomm Radio’s annual Minifest.

With a line-up including Abby Inez, who reached number seven behind Ed Sheeran in the iTunes singer songwriter charts, and Of Kings and Captains, who last year toured with Bon Jovi, families and groups of friends took advantage of the weather for the festival in Cripplegate Park, St John’s yesterday.

David Wooldridge, presenter on the city’s youth community station, said the number of people attending this year had jumped massively from previous years.

“I can’t believe how many people came down - it just shows that if you put something on in Worcester, people will come to it and get involved with the community,” he said.

Having to arrange an earlier time slot because of supporting Dolly Parton at the LG Arena in the Forum Live the same night, Abby Inez said she was looking forward to gracing the stage.

She said: “I am really excited - I did it two years ago.”The country pop singer who will also play at Upton Music Festival and Malvern Rocks anticipates her new EP to be released at the end of the year.

Josh Lomas, guitarist from Of Kings and Captains, a band who have entertained the Cripplegate crowds in previous years and will be playing the Worcester Music Festival later this year as well as Wireless Festival in two weeks, said: “It’s a great event with a really friendly atmosphere - Worcester crowds are always a lot of fun and supportive.”

Parents Kim and Barry Wesbury, who live in St John’s, brought their twin sons, Cole and Kristian, aged five, and enjoyed a picnic in front of the stage.

They said: “It’s beautiful weather for it and we always come to the music events that go on in the park because they are so close to us.”

As well as music there were a variety of stalls and portable crazy golf to entertain the crowds.
