CAMPAIGNERS have admitted they are feeling positive after holding a meeting to brainstorm ideas on how to save a Worcester independent school from closure.

Parents of children at St Mary's School and staff members held a meeting in the school hall on Monday night to discuss the financial matters and to find out if there was any hope for the school, after governors announced it would be closing at the end of the school year.

On the St Mary's Convent Worcester Old Girls Facebook group, where people had been coming together since the announcement on Monday, June 23, people posted positively about the future of the school.

Sam Hobby said: "AMAZING meeting at St Mary's last night. A huge big thank you to everyone that attended. Lots to do now and more details will be released. Save St Mary's is truly up and running!!! @SaveStMarysSch."

And Maddy Minton wrote: "Great meeting.... Feeling really positive. St. Mary's can be saved! Business as usual! xx"

Although no financial details have been released outside of the campaign group as of yet, plans to hold a Black Tie Event were also announced on the page.

A meeting for The Parent Staff Association was held on Friday where it was decided that the school fete, which was planned for Saturday, July 5, will not go ahead, but on Friday, July 11, there would be an afternoon end of term party for the current students as well as old girls.

Details of both events have yet to be arranged and there will be a second campaign meeting held on Monday, July 7.
