SALWARPE Road in Droitwich is currently closed whilst the emergency services respond to a serious collision involving a young pedestrian and a car.

West Mercia Police were called to the incident, which involved the pedestrian and a silver Corsa, at approximately 9.20am.

The air ambulance has landed in the King George Playing Fields to treat the pedestrian, a nine-year-old boy. His parents are with him.

The driver of the car, an 84-year-old woman from Droitwich, was not injured in the incident.

The road is currently close between Kidderminster Road and Ombersley Way.

Update, 1pm:

The boy has been taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital for treatment.

The road has now been reopened in both directions.

Any witnesses to the collision who have not yet spoken to officers are urged to call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 199s of July 5.
