MEDICAL director of NHS England Sir Bruce Keogh paid a visit to Worcestershire last week to speak to staff on the implications of new technologies for healthcare.

Sir Bruce – last year named by the Health Service Journal as the country’s sixth most influential clinician – delivered a lecture entitled ‘Ambition and opportunity in the NHS’ to staff at Worcestershire Royal Hospital on Friday, July 11.

The former surgeon also visited the hospital’s cardiac catheter laboratory and new radiotherapy centre, which is due to open at the start of next year.

Chairman of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust – which runs the Royal as well as Kidderminster Hospital and Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital – said it was a “privilege” to host Sir Bruce for the day.

“Nearly 200 hospital staff, as well as healthcare staff from partner organisations, attended the lecture and were inspired by his vision for the future of the NHS,” he said.

“He was very complimentary about the developments he saw at the trust and was very supportive of our direction of travel to ensure we can continue to offer quality care for our patients into the future.”
