THE participant list for the Worcester City 10K event has been added to with another esteemed guest, as BBC commentator Andrew Cotter is set to take part.

Known to millions of fans of athletics, tennis, golf, rugby and more, the sports commentator is aiming to post a personal-best, after receiving training tips from the  legendary British athlete Paula Radcliffe after they ran together, who is also set to grace the event.

40 year-old Cotter is hoping to record of a time below 41.30 in the 10K, which was set up by Steve Cram to harness the spirit of London 2012.

He said: "Steve Cram and Paula Radcliffe do a huge amount to help and encourage runners of all levels to get involved in running, whether it's racing, running to raise money or running to just keep fit, and I’m delighted to be able to come and take part.

“Both have achieved so much in the sport but simply remain tremendous enthusiasts for running. And the wonderful thing about running is that can be both a great mass pursuit or solitary exercise.

“Only twice have I tried to run with Paula and it's a chastening experience. I think I blamed my hamstring once as I had to collapse after half an hour at her pace.

“I’ve only run two 10Ks previously but it looks like a wonderful course through a historic city and I’m really looking forward to getting my running shoes on.”

The event is the first in a series that cram hopes to roll out across some of the UK's most picturesque and historical cities.

Taking place on Sunday, September 21, the 10K will be accompanied by the Worcester City Young Athletes Runs over 3K and one-mile distances, for 11 to 15-year-olds and those under the age of 11.

The 50K Worcester City run-bike-run event, which comprises of the open 10K run, a 35K bike ride, and a further 5K run, will also take place, available for both individuals and teams.
