A DECISION on whether Worcester will get a Waitrose has been made by the city council. Follow how the debate unfolded (and goes on) live in the panel at the bottom of this story.
As your Worcester News first revealed in January, the company wants to open up on the site of the former Ebenezer Baylis printing firm in London Road.
If it gets the go-ahead, the £20 million project will create 200 jobs by taking up a 40,000 sq ft store.
A report on the proposals says there are 49 letters of objection citing traffic congestion, noise, pollution and damage to independent retailers.
The store would come with 285 parking spaces and include meat, fish, cheese and patisserie counters.
It will stock a range of John Lewis goods, and 40 construction jobs will be available during the building work.
Waitrose says if it secures approval it wants to open in late 2015. The access to it will be off London Road, with a small roundabout created outside the main entrance for cars to come in and out.
