THE show must go on for determined young performers from WODYS (Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society Youth Section).

Despite a dramatic twist that saw the leading lady and one of the dancers both end up in Worcester's A&E department, the popular company's production of Footloose will open at the Swan Theatre on Tuesday (August 5).

Rosie Mountjoy, who plays the lead role of Ariel in the show, and dancer Emi Humphries found themselves in a bit of bother as they ended up in hospital.

Emi, aged, 10, of Kempsey, near Worcester, dislocated her finger jumping into a paddling pool while Rosie, who lives in Worcester and is studying music performance at Kidderminster College, slipped at work.

At first she thought her wrist was broken because of the pain but fortunately it turned out to be badly sprained.

A Kempsey Primary School pupil, Emi said: "My finger really hurt , but I really want to do the show. I will be able to dance, but I won't be doing the lifts now."

Producer and director David Humphries said:" In true theatrical tradition, the girls weren't going to let their injuries get in the way of a great show.

"I am very proud of them and the whole cast, they have all worked hard and the musical is looking good."
