A WORCESTER supermarket helped a family give a relative a special birthday treat — despite the thousands of miles distance between them.

Managers from Sainsbury's in Blackpole stepped up to the task of organising a special 80th birthday delivery for Ken Duncan, who lives in St Johns, last week.

Following a call from Mr Duncan's family, who live in South Africa, Sainsbury's staff gathered together an array of tasty food and treats, all wrapped in a special parcel, which they delivered to Mr Duncan.

The parcel contained a cake, balloons, and messages from his family and Sainsbury's staff attached. Mr Duncan said he had a fantastic day celebrating reaching the milestone birthday.

Mr Duncan's daughter, Fiona, said: "Dad was so surprised and pleased. Sainsbury's staff made his day with the huge box of balloons and a chocolate cake, and they made a fuss of him.

"He was really ecstatic about the contents of the parcel and he will spend many afternoons eating delicious goodies for tea."

The family also thanked Sainsbury's staff for their professionalism and help in making the day "memorable" for Mr Duncan.

Matt James, dry goods manager, said: "Myself and the grocery online team at Sainsbury’s Blackpole saw an opportunity to really make a customer’s day extra special by creating a magic moment for Mr Duncan and his family."
