POLICE are appealing for a man who may have witnessed a sexual assault in Hereford in July to come forward.

The attack happened after a young woman was approached by a man while she was walking home in Bishop's Meadow at about 2am on Friday, July 18.

The attacker was described as having light hair, stubble and was walking with a rottweiler dog.

A 20-year-old Hereford man was arrested soon after and has been released on bail until Tuesday, October 14.

Police are now appealing for a man who was seen on CCTV in the area at the time of the attack to contact them.

Detective Constable David Thomas said the man was not a suspect but may have vital information.

"Fortunately this type of incident is rare in Herefordshire, he said. “However the young woman was extremely distressed by this assault and police are particularly keen to speak to a man who was seen on CCTV at the time as he may have walked past the victim and the offender and could hold vital information.

“He is described as wearing shorts and carrying a bag over his shoulders.”

Any witnesses or those with information about the incident can call police on 101 quoting incident number 0208-s-180714.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers number on 0800 555 111 or via www.crimestoppers-org.uk.

Strange that the HT are allowing comments on this article when a person has been arrested and bailed - very surprised .
