THE Window of opportunity for young local athletes seeking funding has just got much wider.

The Joanna Brown Trust Grant Scheme, which has supported 22 young local athletes since 2010, is now accepting applications all the year round.

Under the old system, young athletes seeking funding had to apply in the more narrow set period of September to the middle of October, with awards being made by early December.

Trust spokesman, Rich Brown said: "This year we have decided to change that format and are now accepting applications for funding all year round and up to £1,000; although more may be awarded in exceptional circumstances."

An example of an exceptional local athlete assisted by the Trust is Jason Relf, aged 20, of the Malvern Archers, who has shot for England in the Home Nations Championship and is a winner of the National Championships.
